CSU Spinoff AVA Solar Named One of the Top 25 Startups of 2008

The online magazine listed the company among an exclusive list of organizations nationally that had raised the most venture capital in the 2008 calendar year. AVA Solar raised $104 million - the most venture capital for any Colorado firm for the year. AVA is expected to start production by the end of 2009 on pioneering, patented solar panel technology developed by mechanical engineering Professor W.S. Sampath at Colorado State University.

Dr. Scharf's research focuses on the technological foundations of the World Wide Web, in areas such as advanced antennae theory, advanced coding and network management, as well as developing a basic fundamental, physical technology layer to enable the World Wide Web. Technologies include advanced antenna theory, advanced demodulation theory, advanced coding, network management for efficient network control, and other basic research. On a more personal level, Dr. Scharf hopes to stretch students to their intellectual limit in a supportive environment.
